Interim Place's 7th Annual Steps to End Violence Against Women Walk

Date: Sunday August 26th, 2018

Time: 9:30am Registration

Location: J.C. Saddington Park, 53 Lake St., Port Credit

The walk will begin at J.C. Saddington Park, in Port Credit, with a vigil for the 36 women that have lost their lives in Peel community due to gender-based violence in the past 10 years. This will include the names of 8 more women since last year's walk. Participants will make their way to the Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens, where the City of Mississauga has placed a Memorial Garden, at the site of Interim Place’s original safe haven, which was established in 1981. At the Memorial Garden, we will remember the over 41,000 women and children that have accessed our services in the past 35 years. We will also honour and remember the 1,221 Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women across Canada.

Your participation is reaffirming for the women and children we serve.  It lets them know that people in their community truly care about the steps they are taking to live a life free of violence and for that, we sincerely appreciate your involvement.

Why We Walk

We walk to:

  • Honour the 36 Women and Girls who have lost their lives to violence in the past 10 years in Peel.
  • Honour the Women and Children we serve and those who need to access our services for their courage and resilience.
  • Make a statement that Violence Against Women is unacceptable and it is time we take a “step forward” to end violence in our community!
  • Raise funds to support Women and Children currently being supported by Interim Place through our Shelters & Community Support and Outreach Program.
